Families often focus on English ability when preparing a student to begin college work early. But language is only one part of the transition.<\/p>

When students begin college work early, three things happen:<\/p>

  1. Expectations rise immediately.<\/li>
  2. Independence is required sooner than most peers experience.<\/li>
  3. Participation becomes personal\u2014especially in discussion-based environments.<\/li><\/ol>
